Creating Tutorials for Feedburner

If you find a blog that does not have the RSS or XML option, you can still subscribe to it by using Feedburner.com I have created a tutorial in Captivate on how to use this. I am also working on another tutorial for podcasting.

Real-time Solutions for Online Learning: Using Synchronous Communication Tools for Right-now Learning

A timely article about LMS and the use of emerging technologies...Managing? Teaching? Learning!

Clickers

From our conversations in Houston at the NLII spring focus session...some universities are using clickers to poll their students in a face-to-face class. Seems to be especially useful in large classes to promote interaction. I do not know if any UCF faculty are currently using clickers.

Blogging in the news

This could really be a hot topic. Check out this article. A student is using a blog to ridicule and harrass other students and faculty. Since it is posted anonymously, the university is trying to get Time Warner to disclose the identity of the student.

I believe this is a university-wide problem. Blogs set up by the faculty might not run into this situation.

new blog, only 2 days old

Take a look at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ . This blog was launched on May 9th, 2005. The names and faces that are contributing to this site is amazing! From Quincy Jones, Bill Maher and Gary Hart to name a few. I'm looking forward to following the development of this site!

Here's an article on Arianna Huffington, the blog's creator. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/features/3174167

New IM application

Okay, so now AOL is coming out with a new IM application - this will incorporate all IM chats in one window. Sounds interesting. I didn't realize that AIM has been around for 10 years. They are now ready to move to a completely new level. They're starting from scratch on the new one.

Need to investigate!

I come across new technologies everyday ('new' to me of course)

I need to research SaveAWave http://www.actasif.com/saveawave/
and http://audioblogger.com in hopes of adding audio components to this blog and possibly to the online courses I help develop.

Devon

My first try...

As an instructional designer at the University of Central Florida, I am always interested in learning more about technology.
  • What's new?
  • What's been evolving?
  • How can I use new technologies in my personal life?
  • And even better, how can I demystify these technologies so that faculty will try using them?

In March 2005, I attended the NLII Spring Focus Session on Emerging Practices and Learning Technologies in Houston, TX. Because of my experiences during the two day session, I now have a multitude of new software downloaded to my computer. On a daily basis, I am working with ipodder, itunes, RSS feeds, news aggregators, blogs, wikis. I find myself suggesting the use of such tools as solutions to problems in the office. These words are becoming my everyday language.

Of course, as with most technologies, as I feel comfortable using one thing, 10 more have emerged. It's an ever changing landscape - one that I must tend to daily if I ever hope to stay up-to-date.

So in a long winded 'hello', I begin my very own blog. I hope to not only record my thoughts but hopefully find a few people who are also interested in learning and sharing.

Welcome,
Devon
